Accounting credits from any college that is accredited by
the regional accreditation boards (in the case of NJ &
PA- Middle states ) is acceptable to NASBA. NASBA runs
the uniform CPA examination for all the states.

NJ & PA have no problem with the community colleges
including CLEP credits as long as they are on the
official transcripts.

You can take classes at Camden County College ( Blackwood
or Cherry Hill campus). They are about $279/course if you
are an in county resident. Prof Sarkisian is the head of
department. He is a great guy. He is not paying me to say
that.

If you need time flexibility, go for the online classes
at raritan valley community college.
www.raritanval.edu/
They are about $350/ course.

For PA you only need 24 credits in Accounting, Auditing,
Finance, Business Law & Taxation. You do not need the
additional 30 credits with them right now. They will phase
in the 150 requirment on 1/1/2012.

However, you may need more than 24 credits ( for a firm
foundation) to pass all the 4 CPA exams. The 24 credit
requirement will increase to 36 in PA on 1/1/2012.

Bizman,

Thank you very much for all of your insight and help! I know county colleges lack upper level accounting courses. Can you recommend anywhere in the NJ/Philadelphia area where I could take some upper levels as I advance through the lower levels?

You can take about 8 courses at Camden CC in Blackwood or Cherry Hill location.

They are: 1. Financial accounting 2. Managerial accounting 3&4 Intermediate Accounting I & II 5&6 Income Tax accounting I & II 7. Auditing & 8. Computerized accounting or Accounting with Microcomputers or Accounting Info system ( Quickbooks)

You can do Govt & Non Profit accounting & Cost accounting online at RVCC. As far as 'upper level courses' are concerned, that leaves Advanced Accounting and Fraud accounting. These can be done online with LSU. So, you can be busy for at least 12 accounting courses!

I have not found any local community college offering International accounting or Advanced auditing. Your options may be Rutgers, Temple or Rowan. I am seeking better alternatives myself. Hope that helps
