Congrats! My experience is finished next week so I'm just waiting around to send in the form. I had them filled out a long time ago haha.

Yeah it is a new thing, effective July 2009. I used to work in government and had a few coworkers that were inactive CPAs, they all had to activate by the end of 2009. I'm well aware that every state is different, just make sure.

Congrats to you too!! I went to University of Rochester, for both undergrad and grad school. I moved away in June 2008, which must be why I haven't heard about that new rule for NY.

Thanks. I went to Le Moyne for both undergrad and grad. U of R has a nice campus, I was at the interfaith chapel this past summer for a wedding.

You might be able to get your employer to pay for it too =). Doesn't hurt to ask!

May I ask you a silly question? What's the downside to join AICPA (if any)? The simple math still says that $380 is less than $435. Are there any issues with joining the 'big organization'? Thank you.

I can't think of a downside, I used to get a bunch of annoying e-mails but that is it (I think you can turn them off). You do get a subscription to the Journal of Accountancy which has lots of interesting articles and a great section on Microsoft Office tips & tricks every month.

The downside would come if you were a partner (the dues go up to $375), so it would be cheaper to buy just the CPExpress membership in that case.

I'm not a member anymore because my firm's policy is it will only pay for one professional membership, so I chose my state society. The firm provides CPE so I don't have to worry about that either. However, I would say there really is no downside.
