Hi guys,

I am having trouble finding any post dedicated to the
Written Communication section for BEC. So I want to make
a post where we can share any tips and experiences for
the WC.

How did you guys study for WC? I found it's not something
you can really study.

A lot of these WC gurus tell you to use these "Buzz
word", which are words that add points when read by the
grading program. But I am not sure what exactly the buzz
words are.

It seems it's also good to repeat the question a few
times in your response.

I think being graded by a computer program can be a
double edged sword.

You are welcome to share your knowledge on this topic!

Good luck to all!

For the Written Communication (WC) questions, I just prepared by doing five or six of the WC simulations in the Becker Course Review. I focused on keeping myself to 12-15 minutes per question, so I could leave myself w/ 45 minutes for the WC questions on the exam, and still finish w/o leaving any blank.

As for "buzz words," I definitely recommend that you look over the Becker Review Course for advise on important words to use. Always consider your audience in answering the WC questions. The level of language and tone that you use will largely depend upon who you are inevitably writing to.

Cliffs: Practice WC questions using Becker, Wiley, or any other CPA Review Software. Focus on getting the questions done in 12-15 minutes. Remember audience.

Thank UfundMyCo11ege!

That is some awesome tip!

I don't have the Becker's WC review. I am only using their
PassMaster.

Do you or anyone else can give me some examples of
"important words"?

That would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, I understand that you use those specific words but my
question is, what do you do if you read the assignment and
they ask you something that you just cannot remember? For
instance about COSO or ERM. How do you handle it????

When I took the BEC (didn't pass) but my written communication score was great, the questions were items I knew from previous accounting classes.  One, I thought, was best suited for FAR.  I suggest you write it like you would any paper, intro, argument, and conculsion.  Your answer should be on topic and to the point.  Remember, only two of the three are graded toward your score, but it is 15% of your overall grade.
