I've actually been told differently by my review course about needing to know everything, and to "prepare for the worst." I've been told, and I tend to agree, that you need to focus on the "most important" and heavily tested areas, and just briefly review the obscure material. With a section like FAR, we all know that there's too much material to become an expert in everything, but that you need to know enough to get a 75. When you're a busy person, and you have a life outside of the exam, it might not be a great idea to spend a lot of your time on segment reporting or individual financial statements...spend that time on bonds, consolidations, or governmental.
Good luck to you, I know that you'll pass it some day and we'll both be on the other side only having to advice people on the exam some day.

Yeah, I disagree with this “just study enough to get a 75” method. I’ve tried it and as you can see, it didn’t work. The CPA exam is full of surprises. Prepare for the worst…..that’s what I believe and that’s what I’ll do. And that is why I’m 100% confident I’ll pass this time. Yes, it’s impossible to know everything 100%, but it’s best to try to study as much as you can. Even if you *think* you know enough to get a 75, studying more will only increase your odds of passing. I see you got an 84 on the exam, which shows that you did indeed prepare for the worst. That’s what I plan to do. I don’t want to pass with a 75, I want to pass in the 80s or 90s. I’m not aiming for high score for bragging purposes, but am doing so because it increases my chances of passing. If I was studying before at the bare minimum to get that 75 and I ended up with a 73, then I’m pretty sure I can do very well if I study A LOT harder this time.

CPA #1, you are absolutely right: prepare for 99, not 75 and you pass. Prepare like you need to know 100% even you will not get everything to the letter.
Also, I totally disagree with Coastergenius: I had a lot of questions on my exams from small areas, and if I missed all of them b/c I was concentrated on so called large areas, I would fail.
BEC: I had like 10-15 questions from the very small topic of Economics. What would I get if I skipped this topic b/c Wiley gave only a page to that.
I would recommend to buy Gleim prep software. Only 55$ with a lot of questions. I noticed that Gleim focuses on different areas than Wiley, that makes coverage more complete.
Good luck.

Yes, definitely. If some people here were able to get a 99, then it is not impossible. If I screw up a little, then I get in the low 90s. If I really screw up, then I get in the 80s. Either way, I passed.
In college, I was 1 of 3 people (in a class of 30) to get an A in both Intermediate Accounting 1 and 2. That proves I'm more than capable of passing this exam.
Heh! If you look at my first post here, you can see my lack of confidence. Now, my confidence has skyrocketed. It's unbelievable! I guess when 2011 hit me, I suddenly realized that being a CPA is my true calling in life. So, passing all 4 parts is my New Year's resolution.
And what's interesting is that I planned on studying for only 2 hours last night after I came home from work, but I ended up studying for almost 5 hours. Was up until midnight, lol. I guess I was too focused studying that I lost track of time, lol. I'm just soooo motivated to pass this. More motivated than ever, in fact.

Sometimes I look on this site and I see amazing scores in
the 90's and I wonder what's wrong with me. I've only
taken 2 parts FAR and BEC but I bombed both of them. It's
very frustrating to put in so much effort only to fail.
Being a CPA is why I went to school for an extra year and
it's a dream of mine. I've made up my mind that I will do
it no matter how long it takes or how much I have to spend
but that doesn't mean that failing an exam isn't a shot to
the heart. Do employers care how many times you took the
exam? Will you be looked down upon if you failed a few
times before passing?
