Buddy, relaaaaax! LOL, I'm taking the my first FAR Tuesday, and I feel the stress too, but you cannot let the "failures" get to you.  In my opinion, you're not even failing in the first place.  You are answering question after question, taking practice test after practice test, and that is a huge part of being successful at anything.

It sounds like your biggest obstacle right now is yourself - your confidence should be sky high right now, but if you blunt it by worrying about this score and that score, you're almost gauranteed to self destruct.

You've got to try to get over the irritation over the way the questions are worded and what they are "expecting".  Just accept it and try to learn how to decipher what they are really asking for in these questions.  I noticed the same thing, and I feel like I've learned quite a bit about how to answer the questions simply by analyzing how the more tricky ones are worded or the information/numbers are presented.

Good luck, and I'll need some of my own Tuesday taking FAR for the first time.  I hope you pass.

Ok, just took FAR today. I was more prepared than ever walking in. The first testlet was a breeze. I was dancing my way through it. Must've got at least 25 out of 30 correct. But the second testlet and on, forget it. They got REALLY difficult. Oddly though, the second and third testlets both had different kinds of difficulty. In the second testlet, I got like 7-10 foreign questions. It was weird. Then there were some that were difficult to solve because there were so many nitpicky stuff that I couldn't figure out because it was never emphasized in my review course. Now, the third testlets had better questions on topics that I knew, but wow, they required heavy, intense calculations. I almost ran out of time because of this. Geez!

The simulations, on the other hand, weren't so bad. Out of the 7 task-based simulations, 2 of them were research questions!! Odd! I thought they only give 1. But those were straightforward and I found the answers with ease, so I'm not complaining. There were a couple of other simulation questions that weren't too bad. However, there was one that I thought was extremely tricky. I believe I spotted all the dirty tricks on that question, but since I'm not 100% sure, I can't be 100% confident that I kicked butt on it. Then there were 1 or 2 other simulations that were a bit iffy, but I believe I answered them ok.....I hope.

But it's so odd. I studied like crazy this time and I still couldn't walk out of the exam room and dance with confidence that I kicked butt on it. It's just so weird. Oh well. Now comes the dreaded 3 month wait for my scores. Until then, I now have to move on and study AUD, which I'm slated to take at the end of May.

CPA#1,

Thanks so much for posting this. I sit for FAR in 12
days. It is my first attempt at any of the sections. I
have studied using Yaeger HomeStudy, Wiley test bank, and
Gleim test bank.

I am having the same issues with the random tests. My
scores are all over the map! I average out to about a 70%
on random MCQ tests.

It is comforting to know that I can still pass the exam
even though I am scoring below a 75% on these random MCQ
tests.

Like you, I have been studying for 4 months for FAR, at
least 20 hours a week.

Hopefully I can slay the beast like you did!
