Sorry for the double post but this is a different question as compared above.

Is there a specific calculator to be used for the CPA board exam like in the Philippines? Most of the taxation amounts are adjusted per inflation basis, what amounts must I follow if I take the board exam this year? (IE 2011/2010 rates/amounts for 2012 or 2012/2011 rates/amounts for 2012) Is the simulation hand written or can be done electronically?

Hey futurecpa12345,

That statement pertains to the NTS and not on your
credentials.

Usually the process happens like this, Illinois will see
if your credentials match with their requirements, based
on that, they approve your application. You can now pay
for the section which you wish to take, they will send
you the NTS for you to schedule when, where and what time
you can take the section.

The 6 month rule they have, i'd say call the illinois
BOA. It's better that the interpretation of that
statement comes from them.

As to the examination, BEC,FAR & AUD would be 90% the
same as in the Philippines so if you took the phil board
exam recently (i took Philcpa in May 2010), it would be
almost the same. Just get a Wiley reviewer book and go
over it and i'd say you'll pass.

I studied for the BEC and FAR at the same time in 3
months and studied AUD separately for 3 months because i
was already working. I passed the 3 in 1 try.

As for Regulation, 3 months is a suggested timeframe to
study as it is 100% different from phils. I'm taking
this one on 4/7/12.

As for the amounts to use, the general assumption is if
it is silent you use the 2012 rates while if the problem
states the year, you have to use the rates and rules that
pertain to that year.

The CPA exam has it's own spreadsheet software and
calculator. No need to bring a calculator in the exam.

Hope this helps you a lot.

Regards,

Hey watswidme,

Thank you for the reply =) I'll assess myself if I can
take the board exam within the 6 months time frame (I
think that's what the NTS *notice to schedule* is for)
for this year.

Btw, one question is still unanswered. Is the simulation
done electronically? Because, if it isn't, I think I need
to improve my penmanship :P.

By the way, Good luck on your exam :) Aja!

And I think I should change my username too lol.

Futurecpa12345,

http://apps.aicpa.org/CBTeSampleTest/SampleTestStart.html
?cm_mmc=AICPA-_-CPAExam-_-exam_tutorial_parallel-_-CBT-
e+sample+tests+and+tutorial

This is the sample of the exam. It's really easy to
follow.

I'd recommend that you finish the exam before working (or
at least ASAP) because I will tell you, it is very
difficult to work and study. I'd also say that 6-8 months
is good to beat the exam. Otherwise you risk being
unemployed for a long period thus making job hunting more
difficult.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the site and the advice :). As of now, I'm
studying Becker materials even though I'm still on the
evaluation of credentials level. I recently finished REG
1 and now answering the questions therein. When I receive
my evaluation, that's the time I could assess my level of
readiness.
