You may mean 'compiler utility' which in its simplest form is the
software used to turn written code into computer code.

Especially, milkatz, I appreciate your feedback. yes, i was actually looking for the term you mentioned. I still could not find its description from textbooks (becker/wiley/bisk). so it helped me a lot. Thank you, again!
