Hello everyone,

No matter how much time and effort I put into studying I can't seem the pass ANYTHING. Not to mention money. I shut down the world to study and can't pass. I live in the library.  I was using Becker with no success and switched to the Wiley book and started receiving higher scores. I just sat for REG, BEC, and AUD with no success. I consistently keep missing by roughly 10-15 points. I have taken those three too many times to mention its embarrassing. I usually feel great before a test and after I take it.

Heres my question(s). I just received a job offer and probably won't be starting for two to four weeks from what I was told.

Do I try to knock something out like AUD before I start working or spend the time while I'm not working on FAR? I've only taken FAR once and after studying one chapter this week I know its going to give me a nervous breakdown. I feel confident about AUD because I feel its fairly fresh in my mind. I just want to pass something! I know I can do it and I just want to get my confidence back. I'm so sick of studying. Also any advice or motivation to pass is appreciated.

Thanks

Determined,

i understand your frustration, see my scores. i never thought i would pass an exam until i did and you will too.

are you taking multiple exams per window? how long are you studying before you take the exam? for me i would schedule 2 exams per window and could not pass, think it was too much for me. also, i don't think i put in enough time to really understand the material, longest i studied for an exam was 4 weeks. for my pass with AUD i studied for 3 or 4 months.

go for AUD only and study for it this whole window and nothing else. another thing is i used to take the exam even tho i didn't feel ready, now i only schedule the exam when i'm 100% ready

It really saddens me when I see so many people here struggling and feeling demoralized. Because of this, I've decided to add my previous failing scores on my signature. I think by showing people my previous failed attempts, it will show people that you can make a HUGE difference in your score if you change your study habits.

Yes, putting in the hours is very important, but if they're not quality hours, it's not going to help you to pass this test. A failing grade does NOT mean....study harder, study more hours, or you're stupid. It simply means your study method is not working. The solution would be: change it!! Start doing something you've never did before whether it be taking notes, switching review courses, doing more practice questions, etc. Only you can decide for yourself what method works for you.

And the best advice I can give anyone who takes these exams.....aim for a 90 or better. Act as if the passing grade is a 90. Get that 75 out of your head. The higher you aim, the more you increase your odds of passing. Study as if you have to get a 90 to pass.

If you figure out why you're failing and correct it, you
will pass. Maybe you aren't studying the way you learn
best. For me, I don't learn listening at all. I just
don't pay as much attention listening as reading. So I
didn't listen to any lectures, and just read and did MCQ.
The CPA exam is not impossible, it's not even supremely
difficult, it just takes hard work and a little luck. My
first time, I didn't put in nearly the study time at all.
Too many exams, too close together, no real idea what I
was getting into. After I focused and worked hard, it
just came together for me. Maybe not the best scores
ever, but that doesn't matter at all. You can do it!

Thanks everyone for you input. Much appreciated!

nolifecpa: I've done everything from taking one exam to up to three exams per window.

I've decided to go with Audit since I feel most confident about it and sit for it mid to late August. My study routine USED to be read the chapters then do the MC questions till I was blue in the face. Now I'm creating chapter outlines, using flashcards and doing the MC questions. I'm also going to spend more time practicing the TBS. I hope these changes help.

Thanks again everyone for your help.
