Sat for the CPA 10 years ago. I didn't do it right, and crashed and burned. Now considering retaking the exam.

Is there one review course better than others for this situation? Would you
suggest retaking an accounting course or two prior to a review course?

I don't think underlying fundamental accounting principles have changed
much, although I do not know how much IFRS changes the reporting
landscape.

First of all, congratulations on getting back on the horse!

I can't give you any input on the right review course for you (conflict of interest and all) so I'll let the other CPANet forum posters give you some insight or suggest you look through the different course stickies on the front page for some advice on that...

however, I wouldn't worry too much about IFRS at this point. It looked to be a serious shake-up for the CPA exam when it was announced last year however the SEC has slowed the transition and it is unknown at this point what will happen with IFRS adoption and, more specifically, how it will be tested in the CPA exam.

All the more reason to start the exam NOW and get it over with before things change too profoundly.

Retake,

Well done on coming back to something you left 10 years ago. It is not easy but I think that you are about half way to your destination by attempting these exams again.

As for the best review course, this is my opinion:

I am using Becker (expensive) and have used Gleim (Not too expensive). Now if you want more in depth knowledge of the material and do not mind the kitchen sink and all the stuff inside it thrown at you, Gleim is the way for you.

Now if you want straight to the CPA-exam-point, no clutter and you may need to dust off a few accounting/tax/law/economics/finance textbooks off (all depends on how you study and what knowledge you have retained over the years) then Becker is for you.

I have heard from others good things about Yeager and Roger CPA, but as I have not used them I will not recommend.

PS Do not worry about the IFRS for now at least!
