I have been thinking of pursuing CPA. I am 35 years old.I
hope you would
not mind me asking some questions for the same.

1) It was 14 years ago I last studied Accounting--back in
1998 March to be precise. I have some books:
a)Fundamental Financial Accounting concepts 6th edition
by Thomas P. Edmonds et al,.
b)College Accounting 18th edition by Heintz and Parry
c)Intermediate Accounting 15th edition by Stice et al,.
d)Cost Accounting 6th edition by Brock, Herrington

Do you think it is best to thoroughly brush up all the
concepts from these books for 6-8 months and then pursue
a review course from Becker or Yaeger. First take up the
FAR and then read the Auditing and Assurance services
-10th edition by robertson and Louwers.

I got my Bachelors in Accounts in India with a 3.78
GPA(as evaluated by the WES-World Education Services). I
worked for 10 years in England and Scotland for a Major
Restaurant Chain as Restaurant General Manager after I
pursued Hotel Management course there.

Right now I am based in Virginia state, close to Roanoke.

You think it is the way to go as far as preparing the CPA
with first going through all the above books and
appearing
in the order of FAR,AUD,BEC,REG.

I have got no clue what is in BEC or REG.

Is there anything I am missing or a better plan you might
suggest to adopt. Please advise. Great forum and it is
tremendous help to everybody.

Right now, I being on a dependent visa, staying home and
taking care of my 2 year old son, I have time. My wife
works and has a good job in Hospital.

Many thanks for your time.

hei nitin i advice u to CPA.

Reason:

1. u have good background relating to accounts, costing which will almost cover up 2 subjects.

2. i think u can crack the cpa exam in almost 6 to 7 months.

3. regarding material beckers is the best becoz i am also using it currently.. its the best.

4. if u join the beckers it would cost u more than 3500$.. but i have better option as i m having all the 4 subjects material video lecture ( which will help u in assisting through live video), passmaster through which u can get around 2000 multiple choice question to get through study. final review which will help u in getting final touch to the subject, then u will get the Beckers class question, also i will provide u with all books in PDF form .

wht else u want man.

if u think i m finding interesting to u u can contact me on pateljainesh87@yahoo.co.uk OR jenish233257@yahoo.com OR pateljainesh87@gmail.com

Hi Nitin,

It seems you have the right attitude and motivation to successfully pass the CPA exam. I wish you the very best in your studies!

A teaching type of course may help you feel more comfortable with accounting topics you haven't seen for several years.

In any review course you consider, I would recommend viewing demo and compare this to your learning style (audio/lecture, visual/reading, etc). Some people want to only read and do practice problems. Others need to hear information and watch professor. The more senses you use, the easier to remember information.

I like to listen to video instruction. Roger CPA Review has very good lectures and utilizes same homework as Yaeger (Wiley). Also, NINJA notes are useful for final review. Becker has a good reputation, but is more expensive. Some peple love it, others dislike. Depends on your preference...

Please pay close attention to expiration dates of course materials.

Best to you!
