At what point do you just give up and say, 'you know what, I've spent waaayyy too much money attempting this exam, I quit'?

When you decide that being mediocre is just fine. Don't do it, this is a book test; a finite amount of material. It is not advanced theory that requires extraordinary thinking.

Never. Giving up is basically making it all seem worthless. Failing part after part gives you a higher probability of passing the next part.
