What seems to be a big draw for the small firms, IMO, is that if you ever wanted to branch out on your own you're much more prepared down the road to do that. I haven't heard of many people who work for the Big 4 starting their own firms. Maybe that's the case but I don't know that. Does anyone know?

I agree. it is easier to start your own little shop with small firm experience.
