Thank you bear2099.

Also, you mentioned that you worked PT through a temp agency. Was that PT in that mid-sized accounting firm you mentioned?

I am curious as to which state you are currently in. I am here in New York and the requirements for receiving a CPA license are stringent: 2 years public accounting experience with 75% of that experience in the field of auditing financial statements.

Hey PA..

My profile is exactly similar to yours. I have my Honors degree in Accounting and MBA from India. I aspire to take my CPA but at this point in time I am desperately looking for a break in Accounting. I do not have any work knowledge in Accounting just as you.
Though I have 5 years in sales and management but that is not the area I want to pursue over here.

How did you go about getting this job?
Can you PLease...suggest some ideas?
Did you do any short course or anything specific that you have on your resume that caught your employers attention?
I keep applying in hundreds but no employer seeking candidates for accounting positions call me back...

Request some suggestion.

I did not do any short course.  I just took the CPA exam. Just continue on sending applications online.  It may take a long time but it works.  I thought monster.com will not work but actually the job i got was from the posting there which i applied.  Try craigslist too. There you may get fast reply if you're just seeking any accounting positions.  There are plenty of entry level/ staff accounting positions available.  But don't push on higher salary at this time.  Just get the offer if there is any.  Once you're in and have the experience here in the US, you can then demand higher rate. Recently, i also saw some entry level public accountant (cpa firm) positions posted in craigslist (as it is nearing the tax season now)

By the way, in which state are you hunting job?

I am looking for a job in Southern California.

Temps like Accounting Temp did'nt even ask me to meet them since I do not have a work knowledge in Accounting......

I am not being picky about salary and been constantly applying but i guess not having work knowledge is posing a barrier..

I am a BCOM (accountancy major) with MBA -Fin ...do you think eligibility  for taking the CPA exam could be a problem?
