If your not comfortable, do not sit.  You gotta remember your going to waste 2 more months of your time, sitting fees, travel expense, etc.  This is not some college test that you can wing!  You have 3 hours to accomplish a lot of stuff on that exam.  Three 26 MCQ testlets, and two simulations....along with two letters to write.

If you are strong with tax and you feel "okay" with the business law, then sit.  But get it right the first time!  If it were me...I'd spend the $30 or whatever immaterial amount it is to reschedule if I had feelings like..."If I only had 2 more weeks to study, I would have been able to cover those loose ends that I wasn't comfortable with."

I'm not trying to discourage you...but I am trying to discourage from making a $500-600 in expenses & 2 more months of time studying this crap again.  It's your choice take 3 weeks and spend $30 (whatever it is) or spend 2 months and spend $500 (travel, CPA review course crap, & sitting fees).

Pass,

The key point you make that I needed to hear is that this is "not some college test that you can wing!"  Btw, I am sitting for BEC next, not REG, but it's all the same.

I suppose I could move it up 2 or 3 weeks.

Basically, the choices are:

1.  Reschedule and Lose 2 or 3 weeks and $30

OR

2.  Test unprepared, likely fail, and lose 2 months and higher fees

Both scenarios mean less study time for the other sections, but choice 1 seems to minimize the pain.

Please let me know if I have left anything out.

Thanks!

Sorry about the section mess up!  I'm sitting for REG in a few weeks... and I'm in the frame of mind that everyone else in the world is too!

You have it down based on what I posted.  Now keep in mind, that post was directed to a person, who is studying their A$% off but there are a few more things they learn.  This person is realistically very close to passing the exam on the first shot (as long as emotional issues don't kick in - running out of time, nervous, etc), assuming this person continues to diligently study, it makes perfect sense to give this person a couple more weeks to study.  A couple of more weeks couple make or break this person!

Now, if you are a procrastinator, and your just F^&* off... going to bar on Friday nights after work until midnight and blowing off studying that night, waking up at noon the next day, feeling like crap and you decide your going to study for in "drips and drabs" for the weekend, then SIT FOR THE EXAM AND DON'T CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT.  Get the experience!  If money isn't an issue or you just don't care about it, and you have your whole life to spare and you pass the exam when you get around to it, I strongly suggest this advice.  After about 3-4 times of taking BEC and spending about $1500-$2000 in expenses, you'll pass it!

The option is yours.  You can get your crap together and buckle down and focus and just get the work done, or you can Micky Mouse around with it.

I'm glad that my previous post helped you by reminding you this isn't some 6 week college course that you can go to the bar on the weekend, cram on Monday, and pass the exam on Tuesday!  The AICPA will make sure you know what you are doing first before you pass the sections.  You gotta know the material!  BEC is a medley of crap to learn - I hate the section!  I'm sitting for it after REG.

My question to you is... How much will it cost you to become a CPA?  $2500 Becker + $1000 CPA fees & expenses = Total $3500? Or.....will it cost $7000 or $10,000?  No one around here...talks about how much it will actual cost.  What about the cost of the stress and your time?  Heck...My boss is billing me out at $150 an hour with only two years experience in tax.  He thinks my time is worth that and obviously the clients think so.

Let's say your time is worth $50 right now.  How many hours do we have to put in?  30 hours * 6 weeks = 180 MININUM hours....at how much?  $50 an hour!  That's $9000 for one section!  Times four?  $36,000 plus fees $3500 = $39,500!

This is my second round with this exam!  Say my boss decides to sell me cheap at $50 an hour...I'm already at $39,500 plus I gotta do it again and I got another review course (Gleim) at a $1000!  So now I'm at:  40,500 2nd + 39,500 1st  = Total Cost of CPA Exam $80,000!

Remember...I might spend $80,000 on the exam for both times and may not reach my goal of passing it!

I hope this is a sobaring thought for you.... your time is valuable and so is money.

Good luck with the exams and the choices you make to achieve your goals.

Thanks for giving me this to think about.  I will make my decision this weekend.  If you stick around you will see how it all plays out.

Look at the times I'm writing these posts!  I'm breaking my A$% studying from the time I put the kids to bed around 9pm.  I do this every night and I'm up until 2-3am to unwind.  I work in public accounting right now (tax) and I have to deal with all the BS at work!  I'm a preparer and I have to answer to 8 different tax managers (all CPA's) and half of them don't know their A$% from their elbow!  CPA doesn't mean crap when you don't have common sense.

I had a tax manager tell me once (just recently) to capatalize an item that cost $800.  Well it had to be capitalized over 39 years!  To make matters worse the client had income so we Sec 179 all the other assets except this one item.  It's embarrassing to have this on the fixed asset schedule.  It's $6 a year for 39 years!  I hope the partner gets all over this manager for this.

My only saving grace is that managers have already done the first review on the return and whatever they want to turn into the partner is on them so the excuse of the manager saying, "I didn't tell JC to put this on the fixed asset schedule!"  The partner will just say..."You are the manager and in charge and you are to blame!"  It's their budget and if they want to destroy with redos over BS like this...that's on them!

This is the crap I have to deal with!  I know once I pass this damn exam I will be a great CPA because I've got common sense and I'm becoming a very good tax accountant the more corporate & partnership returns I do.

Also, I won't spend my life making other rich...so I'll be around to see how you're doing!
