Hi Younus

From the wording of the letter, it looks like you will not be eligible to sit for the CPA exam. i am also an Indian B'Com but i am also a MBA...so i had the hourse..incidently i also sat from the colorado board....if i remember correctly, Delaware at that time (2006) only required 90 hours to prepare for the CPA..i am not sure if they still do it...or there might be some other states....do your research and you will find a solution....

If i can ask,, what is your long term goal. Do you intend to come to the USA...Most sates will require you to have public experience in the USA..they might accept foreign expereince in some cases....unfortunately, Indian experience is not very valuable in this part of the world....on the other hand if you want to continue to be in Canada, why dont you give the Canadian CA....What is the value of doing CPA in canada...

Hello Jaan,
About my CPA I can do it from Delaware state as Delaware does not require 150 hours and also not 120 hours but a Associate Degree and credit hours in US Federal Taxation which I am at the moment in process of doing it. I am doing my CPA because firstly it is a internationally recognized qualification, secondly it opens up ways to enter into other accounting professional degrees like CMA, CGA or maybe CIMA these all are leading to be a qualified professional in Financial Accounting.
Canada does not easily recognize any foreign qualification and it is not easy to get into any Canadian professional course unless and until you complete some undergraduate courses which are expensive and time consuming, also I am more capable and experienced than any Canadian or American qualified Accountant but as I have to show a North American qualification to qualify for a higher job position and Canada recognizes CPA's and many are working in Canada. Also I have an option if I need to come to America any time to work I have a American qualification under my belt.
Lastly Colorado can accept me if I can join up some course in management or accounting which can be completed maximum 60 days after I have appeared for my first CPA paper and the college sends the confirmation about my ongoing study program.

Jaan,
To add I have international experience as I have worked with Australian and American companies based in the Middle East as Senior Accounts Manager and the last job before I migrated to Canada was with a manufacturing company based in New South Wales and I have ample international exposure. Also presently I am working as a Financial Analyst in Canada and I had not to wait for a long time as other immigrants do when they migrate to America or Canada as I was confident about my work abilities and experience.
To add to your knowledge Canadian CA is a very lengthy time consuming affair which requires dedication, time, money and a time away from earning your daily bread which I cannot afford to do it possibly.

Further to the request from Sabyous above, if anyone would like my assistance with getting information on the CPA exam and/or whether they are eligible or not, they should contact me directly at la_cpaexcel@shaw.ca or call 1-877-775-7652 (tol. free).  As each candidate's situation is different in terms of education, work experience and what their goals are in obtaining the CPA, it is impossible to post eligiblity recommendation that would apply to everyone.

Hi yunus

It looks like you are on top of your game and have a plan...thats nice..At one point, i was considering coming to Canada as i have permanent residency there....i dont know if you researched on this but if you have an american CPA, you can give the CARE exam and become a licenced CA in canada...it is a reciprocity agreement and you just have to give one exam and you will be all set after that...it is nice to hear that CPA has demand in Canada....because i had heard something else before deciding to be in the US...Anyways,,,if you need any more information on CPA or job opportunities in USA, please dont hesiate to ask...Good luck mate
