lakshmip, you don't need to specify that it's a part-time job. You could, but its not necessary. So, it's up to you. If someone asks you about it at an interview, you can explain the situation. The resume is like your self-advertisement. Put on it everything that makes you look good. :-)

Guys, do you ever feel like you don't know anything? I constantly have a feeling that I will never be professional enough. I try to study, I have to do a lot of research at work, but I still can't say that I am an expert in anything. :-( I have never worked in one area for a long period of time, and my management level didn't give me access to all information.
My question is how you actually study? Do you select one specific topic and read everything about this issue? Do you read something about everything? Probably, you could advise some books in your area of interest? Right now, I am preparing for the CIA exam, try to read Financial Management (yeah, have been trying for the last two years), and Digital Photography book (it's on my night stand, so I read a couple of pages per day). :-)

Well in order to stay on top of whats going on in the CPA industry I try to read CPA society newspapers and magazines, they're short and most of the articles are issues being faced by the industry right now. Lets be real, most of the topics you or I would normally read about to help advance our knowledge of accounting is very dry reading.

lelik - omg i totally understand you.  i'm going through that right now at work.  i'm new to public accounting. one thing i dread the absolute most is TAXES.  of course i did so much research and was able to do them, some being quite difficult.  i'm still not confident though and feel i have so much more to learn.  i know tax can be complex and intricate.  now i'm moving on to doing corporate taxes at work. i ordered a textbook from online to help me research.  i have access to cch so i often read articles and use them as an important tool for research.  i used to study japanese but now i gave up on that (as a hobby). it's hard to learn one area now because i am studying for FARE at home and then taxes at work UGH!

Strategoes, I do it, too. :-) I am a member of a CPA Society and a government society. I do get the magazines and all major news. However, most of them don't concern directly anything that I normally do (work-wise). I wish I had some mentor who could tell me in what direction to go and what to read. Let's be honest: we have only 24 hours, and we have to sleep sometimes. I read some books, but the majority of information leaves my head several days later. I wonder if you have to be in top-management to really understand what goes on?

certifiedLoser, yeap, it's tough. That's why, I kept my old job until I got my CPA. :-)

It would be interesting to know how many people actually know what they are doing at work and why. Pretty often, people prefer to follow company policies without thinking. I actually feel that I don't have enough information to make decisions.
