I'm a terrible note taker, everything looks important to me, so when I tried to make my own flashcards, I was practically rewriting the book! I felt the Becker flashcards would be a great supplement, and my employer paid for them. I have to say, if I paid for them myself, I'd be regretting it. The cards basically reiterate what material the Becker instructors tell you should be memorized, but the book, naturally, goes into a bit more detail.
Of course, we all learn differently, but that is just my take. Good luck :)
I would like to add, I am in the same boat having received my accounting degree in 2003. I have heard discouragement from a lot of people, saying that I might as well forget about ever passing since I didn't take the exam right out of school. Then I decided, if I was bright enough to learn the material back then, I'm certainly bright enough to do it again. It may be taking longer with having to relearn all these topics, but it is definitely doable!
