i feel like the pay is lower than usual this year, and there doesnt seem to be much room for negotiation. i just received a big 4 offer for entry level, and everyone else ive talked to at my school recieved the same amount at other big 4 firms. it seems like the pay is pretty standard across the board and with the economy down, people are just taking what they can get (at least my peers coming out of college)

byam24,

Thanks for your comment. But can you please be specific about the offer-I mean range in dollar amount that you noticed.

Thanks

Hey Guys,

Someone just told me about his buddy that was hired by one of the BIG 4. He said the guys does not have public accounting experience but he has worked in other accounting capacities, he has a gradute degree, passed the CPA and earning $63,000+ before the offer. He said the guy was hired at $58,000, plus sign on bonus of $5,000, which kind of place him where he was. Is this possible? Anyone with a similar experience, please share with me.

Thanks in anticipation.

Can someone please relate to us the offers from these firms? I was told with the bad economic situation, the B4 are only offering to experienced accountant and they are equally offering ridiculus base pay....can someone tell me its not true

as for hiring only experienced accountants, that is not true. i have no accounting experience at all but was given a big 4 offer. and i know others who were the same. however, i did notice that at my firm a lot of the new hires were previous interns.

for the salary, the big 4 in my area (southern california) pay 50k (however, i did hear that consulting gets closer to 60k). i dunno if you would consider that "ridiculous" or not. with the economy down, i am just glad to have this opportunity. its not just about the salary that makes the firm. i personally felt that the experience and people i would meet are worth more than the money. the mid-tier and regional firms actually pay more, with one offer even paying overtime. but i wouldnt judge a firm strictly on its pay.
