i was wondering if anyone knows what things do they verify during the background check? i gave them information about my previous employers and residences, and also allowed them to do a general check to "assess my character". what things would limit them from completing the offer? i dont have anything really bad that i know of. the only bad things were getting written up in the dorms once and stopped by the police (strange story, i was stopped and the officer wrote info in his pad, but didnt give me a ticket or anything and just said "be safe"). i shouldnt have anything to worry about right?

I have a similar question. I signed and mailed my offer letter a few days ago and am waiting for them to get back to me for paperwork/background check before I start working in Jan..which is just around the corner..

what do they check? I haven't even given them any info regarding my references.. and I don't really have anything in my history..no DUI..no police..no whatsoever.. I am just wondering what kind of things are done and how long this process normally takes to finish.

They check your criminal history and your credit history. I believe that is it. If you were arrested it shouldn't affect your employment unless it was above a misdameaner (sp?). If you have really bad credit you may not get the position because those who can't manage their own finances can't be trusted to review how others manage theirs (or so the logic goes).

thanks for your response bsmup. that kinda relieves me. i would just hate to spend all this effort going through recruiting and turning down other firms just to lose my offer. luckily i wasnt arrested or charged of anything, although im only worried because the officer ran my license through his radio and wrote down some stuff in his pad (so maybe i have some kind of police record or incident report). my credit should be ok, i have never been late on any payments. hopefully it will all turn out clean.

@ssun, the recruiter at my firm told me that the rest of the official paperwork is going to be finished up in spring quarter (my college is quarter systems). so im assuming the process is officially done after that.

has anyone else went through the big 4 (or even any other firm) hiring process and know what kind of this lead to them rescinding offers? and if something happens to comes up, do you get the chance to explain it to the firm? thanks.

i'm actually in the process of doing my background check right now (since i'm starting in January)

So far i've given them info about my personal profile (ssn# & etc) and also finished what they call independence compliance assessment (financial history, ethics, etc).. one last thing I need to do before the start-date is background check which is done by 3rd party company.

I am not sure if they will ask me for references during the background check.. I hope they only check my credit/criminal history without checking my references cuz i'm too lazy to call my previous employers to warn them before the company calls..anyway i believe that's it after that..
