Finishing your CPA exam under your original jurisdiction is highly recommended, that way you don't have to go through the initial application process which takes about 6-10 weeks on average.  Even though you are already in the process of taking the exam under TX, you will have to apply as a new applicant in another state (carrying your credit).

This is not correct.  The initial application process is to be certified in that state and you can take the exam in any state regardless of which state you are registered under.  You don't have to do anything extra to take the exam in another state.  You do have to reapply as you said to become certified in another state, but that is different from simply taking the exam

Hello All:

Here is my situation:

-Living in Cali
-Have Masters degree in Accounting so 150 hours not a problem
-Registered for CPA exams in Cali, passed all the tests, had my employer send in my general 1 year of public accounting experience form
-All I need to do is take the ethics exam, get a background check, and pay the fees

Now here is the wrench...I just got laid-off and I'm moving to Illinois in a month.

I don't want to spend all the money to get licensure in California right now because a) I can't afford it and b) I'm never moving back here so what's the point?

My questions are:

1) Are the Uniform CPA Exam results easily transferable to Illinois?  Should there be any problem?

2)  I got my audit hours in California.  I have to have my employer refill out a general Illinois form to verify my audit hours.  Is it going to be OK if a Partner with a California CPA license signs it or am I going to have to get them signed by someone in the affiliate office in Chicago?  Just curious if it matters or not which state the person who signs it has their license.

These are really the only worry spots for me.  I am moving in about a month so if there is going to be a big problem, I would just have to suck it up and pay the cash to get the California license before I leave.

Any responses would be much appreciated.

Currently live in CA but I *may* move to Nevada in the next year or 2. Currently studying, is okay to take exam here CA, pass a part or 2 , move and then take the rest in NV? Will NV let me practice being CA license? I tried to look up in regards to relocation in the middle  of taking the exam.

Good morning!

I am currently preparing for the CPA exam and working in WA.  I am considering moving to CA to find a new job this April.  However, by then, I will have already taken one section of the exam.  If I move to CA, can I just finish the remaining parts there and get certified there?

Does anybody know???
