You can if you meet the requirements to sit for the exam in CA. Google "CA Board of Accountancy" and look around the website to find the requirements to sit and see if you meet them.

Flicker46,

Most states allow you to transfer scores but as sandiegoCPA said, the best thing to do would be to call the state board directly to be sure. Some states recommend you finish the exam process and then transfer licensure to the state you will be living in.

Hi, I am a student and will have completed a BA and MSA in Accounting in CA by Spring 2010.  I already have the necessary education requirements to sit for the exam.  My problem is, I know I will be moving probably within 1 year, and I am not even sure where to, either Colorado, Oregon, DC, or Virginia.  I realize that Pathway 2 in CA will offer me the most mobility, as (I believe?) it is excepted in these states.  I am just not sure when I should register/take the exam.  I want to take all 4 parts at the same time, unless anyone thinks splitting them up and taking them in different states would save time?  (Unless this is a hassle to have different sections transferred, does it cost money?)

Any help would be appreciated.  I am also not opposed to just waiting til Im settled down and then taking the exam in whatever state I am in.  Problem is, with doing my MSA this year, it would greatly benefit my studies for the exam to take it as soon as possible.

You can apply and take the exams under any state you initially qualify
for. Once you know where you are moving, you can transfer your
passing exam scores to that state.

CPABIZMAN is right.

In California, you don't actually choose a pathway until you have completed the exam process. So start the process and then just transfer your scores once you figure out where you will be living. That shouldn't be a problem as long as you meet that state's requirements, otherwise you will have to actually be licensed in California (meeting the 150 and experience requirements) and then transfer licensure. Unfortunately, it's usually easier to transfer the entire license.

Hope this helps!
