Hello

I passed the Illinois CPA exam a few years back (25yrs) and am now working for an Internal Audit group in MN. Is anyone for sure that with that combination I'll be able to get a MN license? I have looked at the state's licensing regulations and I do not see anything that limits when the number of years that a license can be issued after the exam has been passed. Also, the way that I read the experience regulations, it seems like the work in internal audit should be fine.

The reason that I am concerned is that I need to pick up some 80 hrs of CPE before I can apply for the license and with times being the way they are, is the $$$ for the CPE without being 100% sure that I still can get the license.

My understanding is your passing test score is good for life. If you've never had a CPA license and gone inactive, you won't need to take CPE.

I'm in a similar situation, passed the CPA exam 8 years ago while working in a Marketing career, switched to a small CPA firm last year, and just applied for the license with one year experience in Calif.

Thank you for your response.  I will go ahead and submit the license request and see how long it takes to process. I'll update the forum as to my progress.

Just curious as to how many CPE hours CA requires to maintain the license? In MN it is 120 for every 3 year period.

Gerry, it looks like 80 hours of CPE over two years in Calif....

"A licensee shall be required, as a condition of active status license renewal, to have completed at least 80 hours of qualifying continuing education (CE) in the two-year period immediately preceding license renewal."

Good luck w/ your applicaion, will be interesting to see how the Board reacts to mine 8 years after passing the exam.

Gerry, I got news today that the CA Board approved my license, almost 9 years after I passed the exam, with 1 year of work experience in CA.
