Thanks huskerchick, Nic and Torgo!  I think I needed the encouragement!  I have falied BEC in the past and do not want to have to take these exams over and over again.  I guess I will have to get a plan and stick to it (as much as I can anyway!)  Thanks guys!

Anybody else is free to comment!!  I am sure there are some many of us that feel the way I feel!

Cheerio!!

I feel the same!  I purchased the Yeagar FAR review a year ago.  Sat to watch the first DVD 20 times at least and only make it through an hour before drifting off to sleep or getting discouraged because I dont remember this stuff.  It has been years since I took an accounting class.  I dont know if I should just give up or move on to another chapter.......suggestions?

ninomoi,

Instead of worrying about the section itself, allow your goal to be your motivation. Do you want to become a CPA or do you want to say years down the road that you got halfway and then just got lazy?

You can read all the novels you want once you achieve your goal of CPA licensure - until then, it sounds to me like you need to really evaluate your motivation. Is this what you want to do with your life or not?

Don't be afraid to get back on the horse just because BEC defeated you once before. If you look at passing stats by section, you'll quickly see that you are certainly not alone. http://www.cpa-exam.org/download/PassRates08.pdf - a lot of candidates have trouble with this section simply because they assume it's "easy" because it is less information than, say, FAR and doesn't contain sims. But that's no reason to give up.

If your CPA license isn't motivation enough, maybe promise yourself a gift for passing - a new iPod or a vacation or something like that. It's OK to bribe yourself if that's what it takes to get you over the hump :)

OR you should also consider (in these tough economic times) the additional exam fees, reapplication fees, etc that you are going to have to pay if you don't buckle down and get this done with!

Good luck!

Thanks Rogercpa and everyone for the advice.  Roger your advice was like a major kick in my shins (quite painful!) Yes I do feel sometimes like why am I bothering myself with the exam.  But I do want it to progress in my career.  I am tired of not moving forward with my life because of my lack of self confidence.  But I am changing and I am working towards the April exams seriously.

Thanks Guys!

Ninomoi,

You'll do fine - the fact that you are here on a forum like this asking for help motivating yourself shows that you're committed to the process.

Visualize your goal, make a study plan AND STICK TO IT (no excuses!). Otherwise you'll end up procrastinating.

Debra Hopkins has a great book called "You Can Pass the CPA Exam: Get Motivated" that explains how to prepare an effective study schedule - you need to account for every hour in your week and fill it with study time wherever you have extra time. Get up an hour early to do multiple choice questions, watch lectures on your lunch, skip social activities on weekends and study, study, study. Reward yourself when you pass a part by spending a night out with friends.

We have a student who put up a blank frame in his office where he plans to put his CPA certificate - and every day he looks at that empty frame he visualizes the goal he is working towards.

Whatever it takes for you, you are SO CLOSE! Don't give up now :)
