Recently I read at WES (World Education Services ) website that a 3 year undergraduate degree from India in first/second class from a Grade A college will be evaluated as equal to undergraduate degree in USA and will give 120 credits for the same. I was wondering if anyone from India has got their degrees evaluated from WES and has been able to get full 120 credit .

Hi Shilpa,

I have evaluated my BCom degree from India for the eligibility to apply for CPA exam in California. I put in my graduation degree papers and also my MBA degree, but I have a feeling that if you have taken accounts for all 5 yrs of your BCom degree then your application would be enough to fulfill the 120 hr requirement of that state. I would suggest you get your certificates evaluated through a foreign degree evaluation services office. You could find those offices on the website of the state that your applying for your CPA. Wish you all the best.

Hi Sudha,

Thanks for the reply. I have a BCom degree from India and I have also completed 26 credits from a university in USA. Most of the evaluation agencies evaluate Indian Bcom degree as associate degree and give it 90 credits but since last year WES has started evaluating Bcom degrees as equal to US undergrduate degree. I want to sit for the exam from Colorado state which accepts WES evaluation and if WES evaluates my degree equal to 120 credits, then I will have 146 credits in total and will need to complete 4 more to be elligible to get the license. I was wondering how much credit did WES give you for your undergraduate degree as that will help me to assess my situation.

Thanks a lot your reply.

CPA is not an online course ,its a license to practise as certified accountant just like CA in India. Each state in USA has different rules regarding the educational and work experience requirement. Many states need 120 credits to appear for the exam and 150 credits for licensure while there are some in which you cannot even sit for the exam without 150 credits. Your Mcom degree should be equal to 150 credits but go ahead and get it evaluated by one of the evaluating agencies. You can research about which state is most appropriate for you by doing a little research on cpa baker review website. Once you get your CPA license , you will be able to find an employer who will sponsor your H1 visa.

I hope this helps.
