With the minimal facts that you presented, I would venture to say that you will not be selected for an interview.

There is no reason that this should have been said. |

I disagree.
The exact point I was trying to make is that there needs to be more on a resume than just those grades and GPA to get the attention of a recruiter. There will be a ton of students with grades just as good, or even better, that will be applying for the same positions. You need to make sure you make yourself noticeable in some way or another.

I am currently working right now part time (< 10 hours per week) but my work is not related at all to accounting (Web Design). I have a job just for the extra money to pay for food and other stuff. I'd say that I take more semester units (22 right now) and classes than most students here, though I cannot be really sure of this because I've heard people taking 29 units of courses in one semester.
I have tried to get involve in accounting/finance clubs and was able to talk with some professionals from EY, Merrill Lynch (not accounting I know), Deloitte and other firms. However, lately, I have not been able to allocate much time into networking given the time-consuming courses (CS and upper-division statistics) that I am taking. You might be asking why on earth am I taking those classes? Well, for statistics, I am taking it for my industrial engineering minor and i am taking cs purely because of interest. These are the courses that will surely drag my gpa down =(. But I don't see this getting any better next semester because I am planning to take almost the same amount of semester units as this semester (slightly less) and they all will be upper-divison economics/industrial engineering/accounting courses.
I really want to get a lot out of my years at this university by taking classes that interest me. However, sometimes I feel that I am not doing the right thing because some of those classes are really difficult and they are drags to my gpa which I have to prioritize the most in matters like this. =(
I thank you for your reply and your thoughts =)

The fact that you work on top of taking a crazy amount of units like that will surely impress anyone who interviews you... so the trick is getting that first interview. That's where your resume comes in...
When you put down your current job on your resume, put it down as part-time but don't specify the actual number of hours you work; leave it open for interpretation. In the description of your job duties, you probably want to incorporate the aspect of dealing with customers, working with other people, working on a team, stuff like that... In fact, put less emphasis on the technical aspect of your job and highlight the "people side" of things. Recruiters tend to like that kind of stuff.
If any firms have "socials" a week or two before they conduct their interviews, it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and open up some time so you can attend. These socials seem to have the sole purpose of picking out students that they definitely want to see in an interview, so it's a great way to increase your chances.
Good luck!

I have to agree with SPL81. Resume and networking seem to be extremely important. Make sure you attend all events they have at your university and find out about the firm from others who have worked there in the past. If you have Beta Alpha Psi or/and an Accounting society, join them. I got my job through their networking meeting/nights. Whenever you do meet any of the BIG 4 staff, chit chat and make sure they remember your name. Always get their business cards and shoot them a thank you email for meeting and answering your questions. I found that was what got me a job.
All the best!
PS. With your background, have you tried looking for a job at Protiviti?

Wow thanks alot! Yea I need to do some work on my resume but I haven't been able to do that cause I already got a job and the last time I did some resume-polishing was when I was trying to apply for my current job.
I am planning to leave some room during my senior year for time to go to recruiting events that I havent been able to go to lately.

No, I have not tried looking for job at Protiviti. I am a junior right now and I havent tried looking for a full-time job yet. that's not to say that I am not concerned about getting a job after I graduate. But I am looking into Protiviti's website right now. Thanks for mentioning!
Do you guys know how the big4 compare with BDO/Grant Thornton in terms of the responsibilities that new hires get and the exposure to the accounting world or may be just the general comparison of the two groups of firms? I heard that you actually get to do much more in mid-tier firms.
