Does anyone know if your supervisor's CPA license needs to be active for your work experience to count?

Also, is the work experience pretty broad? I work at an investment bank auditing pension funds and defined benefit plans. I hope that counts.

I really wish they were a little bit more specific on new rules that could really screw up your future.

Hopefully someone has more information on this topic, I'd rather not sit on hold with an office that takes 3 to 6 months to even determine eligibility!

Hello No1BeanCounter, I believe the supervisor's CPA license needs to be active. As for the Florida work experience, FL defines it as the following:

*Work experience shall include any type of service or advice involving the use of accounting, attest, compilation, management advisory, financial advisory, tax, or consulting skills, all of which must be verified by a certified public accountant who is licensed by a state or territory of the United States and who has supervised the applicant. This experience is acceptable if it was gained through employment in government, industry, academia, or public practice and constituted a substantial part of the applicant's duties.

Hope it will help.

Hello everyone, I just checked my CPA license application on DBRP online services that FL already approved my license. But there is one thing I do not understand. My license is approved on 05/18/09 and the expiration date is 12/31/09. I thought the license should be good for 2 years, how come mine is good for only 6 month???

If the CPA license is like the mortgage broker and real estate licenses, you may have fallen into a renewal period. I remember when I first received by mortgage broker license in 02/05, I had to turn around and have them renewed by 08/05. I was more than a little aggravated because I had to pay out more money for that.

Most likely, there are many other licensed CPAs whose licenses will expire this year. Get ready to do your CPE and stuff. I would call the FICPA and find out. Do not call DBPR because they are clueless.

Thanks cfla08! You are right that the state wants to collect more revenues.
