I am really confused with the work experience requirement for NJ now. According to the link http://www.cpanet.com/cpa_forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=28344&am p;PN=1&TPN=1 mansi1279 said "must have done some kind of audit", but late bloomer said on July 03,2009 that tax experience is enough. I only have nonpublic tax experience. The application only asks to fill in various work experience percentage but not mentions about the required percentage for each expericence. Anyone can tell me the exact work requirement for NJ license? Late bloomer, are you there? Please let me know your answer. Thanks.

Nancy,

You do not need public accounting experience. They also consider private industry experience for licensure. You need 1 year experience, yes, you will have to provide the percentages of the work performed in each area. I am also in the process of applying for license. You can contact me at  k.networking@gmail.com and we can exchange ideas on this.

Regards

Nancy:

As Jay_usa mentioned, public accounting experience is not required for NJ license. As long as you have equivalent experience, then you will be fine. In my case, I worked in a corporate tax department and my work experience includes some tax accounting, compliance and research. NJ and NY, both accepted my experience. Also, your supervisor must be a licensed and active CPA.

Thanks Late Bloomer for confirming.

So you have license from all three states? Does it mean once we get a license from one state, we can apply the same in other states ? ( assuming they accept the work experience and fill up required forms )

Did you have a particular reason to get a license in 3 different states? I can understand NY, NJ but why FL? Just curious.

Thank you Jay and Late Bloomer. I only have nonpublic tax experience (I've been working on corporate and fund tax returns for about two years with MBA degree in Accountancy) and no auditing experience. Is that OK for NJ?
