I called 1-800-CPA-EXAM today to register to sit for the exam, when I had to pay by phone $250.50 for the regulation section.  According to this link http://www.beckercpa.com/florida/index.cfm  the section is only $190.50?  Did I call the wrong number and get hosed, they didnt even let me pick my exam date, they said they'd mail me my notice to schedule and I'd get it in 7-10 days.  Why dont they allow me to schedule while I am on the phone?  And did everyone else pay $250.50 for Regulation?

Here's what NASBA happens to say and I don't know why they told you $250.50

Pick Florida and it will give you the fees.

They seem to have overcharged you.  Futhermore, they send you the NTS so that you can schedule with Prometric yourself; they don't do it for you.  They were initially going to mail out my NTS and I called them back and told them to email it instead and they did.  Maybe you could try that.

I called back and complained to a rep. who was really rude and didnt seem to have an answer for what I was saying so he says "hang on I'm going to do something...click" and he transfers me to the Florida Rep whose voicemail says he doesnt take calls and to email him.  How nice, right?

Anyway, I wrote the rep an angry email and I have to fill out a form and fax it back to get my $60.00 back.  The guy charged me a registration fee when he shouldnt because this is my first time registering.

Thanks for the tip on the mail/email thing.  Too bad I'll have to do that on Monday now, but better than waiting on snail mail, espeically since I want to register for the 2nd week in July.

I paid $250.50 (twice) to take REG through Georgia, $190.50 for the
exam plus a $60.00 application fee. It's nice that you don't have to pay
the application fee the first time around, but the refund due to
incompetency is a hassle.

It seems many on this area of the board are Floridians and I am one too.
My story: I graduated with my B.S. in accounting in 2007 and started in a
M.Acc. program immediately. I wanted to get the CPA exam out of the
way while in school, but at the time Florida only allowed candidates who
completed the 150 hour requirement to take the exam. So, I applied to
sit for my exams through Georgia which only required a 120 hour B.S.

Florida changed the rules recently to allow individuals to take the exams
while still completing the credit requirements. I know of many people
who took the exam through other states due to Florida's inflexibility.
Florida lost the exam fees of many due to its policy.

I completed the CPA exam about the same time I wrapped up my
additional 30 hours to satisfy Florida's requirements. As I understand the
information from the DBPR website, individuals who are licensed in
another state or have taken the exam in another state must apply for
licensure by endorsement. The previous state you did business with
transfers your scores (you must request this and pay a fee - $30 for GA)
and as long as Florida's requirements are met everything should be okay.
Florida charges $300 for this, versus $50 (I think) for a regular first-time
application. I have found nothing about license by endorsement entailing
any work experience requirement.

I mailed my application around the end of May, they took a couple weeks
to cash my check and I still haven't heard anything yet. I'll post results
when I have them if anyone is interested.
