I paid $250.50 (twice) to take REG through Georgia, $190.50 for the
exam plus a $60.00 application fee. It's nice that you don't have to pay
the application fee the first time around, but the refund due to
incompetency is a hassle.

It seems many on this area of the board are Floridians and I am one too.
My story: I graduated with my B.S. in accounting in 2007 and started in a
M.Acc. program immediately. I wanted to get the CPA exam out of the
way while in school, but at the time Florida only allowed candidates who
completed the 150 hour requirement to take the exam. So, I applied to
sit for my exams through Georgia which only required a 120 hour B.S.

Florida changed the rules recently to allow individuals to take the exams
while still completing the credit requirements. I know of many people
who took the exam through other states due to Florida's inflexibility.
Florida lost the exam fees of many due to its policy.

I completed the CPA exam about the same time I wrapped up my
additional 30 hours to satisfy Florida's requirements. As I understand the
information from the DBPR website, individuals who are licensed in
another state or have taken the exam in another state must apply for
licensure by endorsement. The previous state you did business with
transfers your scores (you must request this and pay a fee - $30 for GA)
and as long as Florida's requirements are met everything should be okay.
Florida charges $300 for this, versus $50 (I think) for a regular first-time
application. I have found nothing about license by endorsement entailing
any work experience requirement.

I mailed my application around the end of May, they took a couple weeks
to cash my check and I still haven't heard anything yet. I'll post results
when I have them if anyone is interested.

This is what DBPR said in regards to the work experience requirement related to endorsements:

Does Florida require work experience?

Yes, if you are using the old rule education requirements. Depending on the date you initially sat for the CPA exam you will be required to show either one year or five years of work experience.

Here's the link to the FAQs for licensing by endorsement: http://www.myflorida.com/dbpr/CPA/faq-endorsement.html

Thanks for the link.

The old rule education requirement refers to 120 hours which changed in
1983. So anyone who has 150 hours and applies via endorsement avoids
the work experience requirement in Florida.
