I agree with cflas. Masters degrees are overrated these days.

It should work like this:

undergrad accounting degree
accounting related job
cpa certification
cpa license
better accounting related job
masters degree/law degree only if it advances your career

If they're paying for your tuition though I don't see how getting your master's would be a bad thing.

I know two people who opt to do MBA and they cannot land a good accounting jobs in a great company.  After graduating from college in '05 I started the MBA program but decided not to continue because it was too much money and I realize companies are interested in candidates with CPA. Here I am four years  later preparing for the CPA.

I also made a big mistake by declining an offer from one of the big 4 accounting firms.  Now I don't think they will ever hire me.  I am hoping that after passing the CPA I will be able to get a job in an audit firm...

I basically had to get the MSA in order to fulfill the educational requirements to even sit for the CPA exam.

After I finish the CPA exam, I don't plan on getting any more degrees, unless there's a clear path toward further career advancement attached to doing so (and I don't expect there will be).

Actually, I'm starting to become a little worried that companies will look to hire non-CPAs as much as possible, as they can justify paying them less. There are many management accounting jobs for which a CPA isn't truly required......I'm wondering when companies will look to cut costs by hiring more non-CPAs for those.
