hi,

I am planning to do CPA certification. I am a B.Com
graduate and did Masters in Business Administration.
Since 1 month I did lot of groundwork about the agencies
for evaluation of my transcripts and the Universities for
admission. I could conclude with few good agencies,
however I am not able to make out which state university
I should select. I live in Pennsylvania state. I am not
too sure about the rules of different states wrt CPA
certification, however I want to choose such a board
which would satisfy most of the other state rules so that
in case of any future change in my husbands job to
another state, it shall not affect my option.

I am stuck here and would need someone to guide me about
this at the earliest possible. Please do get back to my
query!!!!!! I am waiting....!

swetha

I'm not clear whether you are asking which school you should go to, or through which state you should seek certification.

As to which school, I suggest any school that is accredited by one of the regional accrediting bodies and has business/ACCT programs accredited by AACSB.

As to which state, when you are ready to start taking the exam, I suggest you seek CPA license from whatever state you plan to start praciticing in.  If you already have a state in mind you may be relocating to at some point, then go ahead and check their requirements.  Otherwise, trying to match up where you're going to get initially licensed with some unknown future move seems to be a "crystal ball" endeavor.

I hope this helps, but I'm not sure I fully understood what you're asking.  Even if I did understand what you're asking, this is merely my opinion (especially regarding a "which state" question); I may be wrong and thus encourage you to consider other posts and seek advice elsewhere, as well (ACCT professors, state boards, etc.).

Best wishes!

Hi Hillbilly,

Thank you so much for your reply. First of all, so sorry
that I was not clear about my question. I stay in
Pennsylvania and decided to do CPA from this state board
itself. I also spoke to FACSUSA about evaluation of my
credentials. They told that they would send the
evaluation result copies to me and to Penn state Board
also. So far so good!
However do guide me about these:
1. Do I need to wait till the evaluation completes or
should approach the state board immediately about my
application?

2. I just want to know if I am heading the right
direction by first getting my credentials evaluated?

Once again thank you! I would be waiting to see your
reply.

Swetha:

You only need 24 credits in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Audit & Business Law to be eligible. I am sure your 2 degrees will meet the current credit requirements. After 1/1/2012, you will need 36 credits. If you pass at least 1 CPA exam before 1/1/12, you will be grandfathered.
