Swetha,

From what I understand, you are an MBA (HR) with minor in Finance and little accounting background.

In this case then, I would first like to know why do you need wither of CPA and CFA? Is it not possible to go forward with HR - MBA that you already have?

And in case for some reason you want to get additional professional qualification, then CPA will surely be easier than CFA. Since you are not AS good in finance as CFA requires you to be, CFA should not be an ideal choice. CPA will be easier in the sense that it requires 'broad' knowledge unlike CFA which requires you to be thourough in finance. This is completely my understanding and of no one else.

I would Now advise you to first decide whether you want an additional qualification really? and if yes, then i think you should go for CPA.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Apurva.

Hi Apurva,

Thank you so much for your prompt response.
Firstly, I was told that it will be difficult to make a
career in absolute HR line in USA. For the qualification
and the experience I have, getting work permit would be
tough. This is the prime reason I want to get into other
line but not too different to the ones I know. I have
accounting background in graduation. The finance
background I have in post graduation, as I told earlier
isn't that strong. Where as I feel that I can cope up
with accounting part. After a lot of research, I thought
CPA will be a better perspective. However I had a small
doubt somewhere about the finance option which you
cleared now.
It has been more than 5 weeks now that I sent application
to FACS for evaluation but have not got the result yet.
This is a bigger concern now.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. I understand that I should go
to the University and drop the application once I get the
result and this procedure takes around 6 weeks. Correct me
if I am wrong. In that case, soon after giving the
application can I start preparing for any one exam or need
to wait till my procedure is completed? I want to start
with this November if there is any scope. Do give me your
inputs.

Well, the first time application for NTS takes another month and a half at the most. Its august end right now. If you apply for NTS anytime during mid-september, I think you should be able to take your first test in the month of november.
