Philly.

If there is another way to make a living that is right in front of you I would go for it. I would rather not go through this painful experience. At this point the only thing I can do is pass these tests and hope a CPA firm will pick me up. My dad is a doctor and unfortunately I cannot take over his THRIVING practice =) it is too difficult to make it in medical school these days.

You will be fine man.  There are so many people who are either unemployed and not doing anything OR employed and not taking any steps to better their situation.

When/If the economy rebounds you will get a good job, and then the decision is ultimately yours.  I don't know about you but I am not getting a CPA to work for someone else my whole life :)

If and when Check out the Unemployment thread we are having a nice friendly debate about it.

I am doing this for myself you are right. But from what I saw so far I do not want the head aches of running a CPA firm but maybe I will change my mind if I get into a better CPA firm. I was all for going into business for myself until this latest experience, the door is open I cant predict the future. We will see what happens to our economy.

Well, this seems to be a Philly love thread now!

*removed*, more competition.  That's how I see it.  I'm surprised people have said the economy's good here.  Of course that's relative to the rest of the country.  I'm seeing a line of accounting grads for every job I'm looking at, phone interviews that normally went to a meeting not going through.  Is anyone working with a national recruiter?   I know I'm open to leave because most local firms will act as if they can replace you tomorrow even when the economy gets good because they have their pickings from our many wonderful colleges with solid accounting programs.  From talking with some recruiters who are with it, I'm starting to think Philadelphia is just not the best place for me to continue.

I know, but the grads do not have the CPA'S passed.  Some grads never make it through all the exams. This will be the difference. I have talked to many recruiters and they agree with me every time.

The economy is not good for people outside of finance and Accounting in Philly. I went to the Philly Job fair and saw it for myself!

I have stopped applying to Public firms until I clear the CPA's there's just no point, nothing to back me up. I want them to take me SERIOUS and HIRE ME.
