I have 8 months of Public and 2 Sections passed and cannot find a Job through networking, even though My Dad has a huge bis to network from. In addition to straight up applying and I am going start going networking events but as you put it nothing comes from them.
Why do I want to work in public accounting? Simple, because I want to
gain relevant experience hours so I can get my CPA license.
Exactly...

"Why do I want to work in public accounting?"
Simple, because I want to get public accounting experience in order to start my own CPA practice some day.
My state does not require public accounting experience in order to get CPA license. So my corporate experience is sufficient to get licensed. Any other state that requires this should then make it easier for people to get that experience. If they can't do it than how in the world they are supposed to get licensed?
Again, a million dollar question.

Again with thousands of people applying to corps these days and seemingly the corps don't give a darn if I pass the CPA or not. Public is the only way. My state Requires audit hours - 500. No matter if you work in PUBLIC/PRIVATE/ GOV't
And I dont want to open my practice - I have seen my former employer working themselves to the grave.
I just want credentials to become a manager or join FBI who knows. Become a productive member of this deteriorating society.

I know its very difficult to land a public accounting interview if your not on campus where the firms recruit or have previous public accounting experience. But its not impossible. I have graduated 3 years ago with non-business degree. After getting laid off last year decided to pursue public accounting career.
I have compeleted accounting certificated program and other courses from local community colleges and become eligible for the CPA exam in my state. Last fall I have applied to all the public accounting firms in my city. None of them responded to me. Beginning of this year I have started taking the CPA exam and within 5 months completed all the sections of the CPA exam. I have started networking a lot for the last five months. Attended summer social events for 2 of the big4 firms. Participated networking events sponsored by the state society.
This fall recruiting I have applied through my school where all the major firms come. So far only 2 big4 firms gave me the opportunity to interview and got invited for 2nd round interview in the office in November. The sad part is non of the smaller or mid size public firms considered me as a viable candidate. I am sure if I was given the opportunity they would have impressed with my hardwork and deication. I don't really care about these firms, I was lucky enough to land 2 in house interview from my two top choices and planning to make the best out of it.
The lesson is target the firms that you interested and get to know them and let them get to know you. If you impress the recruiter and professionals that you meet chances are, one of them will consider for an interview and its up to you to show them why they should hire you. Remember I don't even have an accounting degree, which is not a good place to start.

Any suggestions for a Job fair? I going to possibly meet some of the Big 4 this week...Still haven't decided yet if they are just there for lip service and actually interested in hiring CPA's.
