Hi, I have passed all 4 sections of the CPA in NH, but have not obtained the work experience required, as I do not have a job in an acctg firm (public acctg). However, I have experience in general acctg in corporations. As of now, I have not been able to secure a job within a public acctg firm, therefore still not able to acquire the necessary experience.

As such, is there another state that i can be licensed in that meets the requirements of:

1. Do not need public acctg experience

2. Do not need US tax course / audit course (would be willing to take if other criterias satisfied)

3. Do not need 150 hour requirement

4. Do not need residency requirement

I have looked into the requirements of different states, but do not seem to be able to find any that meets the above criteria. Any help / suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated.

California

Pathway 1

Designed for individuals who will practice only in California (residency not required, you won't be able to transfer your license to other states) and requires:

  • A bachelor’s degree;
  • 24 semester units in accounting-related subjects;
  • 24 semester units in business-related subjects (accounting courses beyond the 24 required units may apply toward the business units);
  • Passing the Uniform CPA Exam;
  • Two years of general accounting experience supervised by a CPA with an active license; and
  • Passing an ethics course.

Make sure you had 24 semester hours in accounting subjects prior to sitting for the exam, since NH only requires 12 semester hours, otherwise you will have to retake the exam.

OH NO! I am missing one course for the accounting area! I have 21 semester hours in accounting!! I guess I am not eligible to be certified in California in that case.

Ughhhh.. this is frustrating!! Any other states I can be certified in?

Delaware does not have a residency requirement based on my knowledge. You will however need a US tax course and experience to be verified by a practicing CPA.

Cheers!
