cpakop, stop blaming yourself. You were in wrong place in wrong time. If you were in some different firm, they might train you a little bit. So, do not blame yourself because it is not good. Cheer up.
To answer the previous' poster question, I accepted 2 offers, one started in winter and another in fall. I planned to work winter through summer and quit and go to the bigger firm with the better pay. But, they fired me before I decided to quit. That is all. No one knew that I accepted 2 offers, it was my secret. But I was watching out for myself and I did the right thing for myself. Is it ethical? Well, was it ethical to fire me after one month? I love accounting and put 12 hours today non-stop without lunch. I am tired but enjoyed every minute of my work day.

One thing I can say about starting out fresh in a tax department.  BUY YOURSELF A WILEY CPA REG BOOK!!  When I started fresh out of school in a tax department, I really didn't know anything about taxes, and I received zero training in the area.  I was given all sorts of returns my first week, 1040,1065,1120,1120S, 990, and wow, learning on the go and eating hours is a terrible feeling.  I eventually was let go after 6 months, but more so because the firms revenues were down 15% for the year (late 2008).

Anyway, my point is that when I was studying for the REG section of the exam, every page was like "oh so that's what that review note was talking about."  I feel very prepared to tackle tax returns with a season under my belt and the REG passed, now if someone will just give me a chance.... here's hoping to become a slave in January.
