another question- are there are limitations on the work experience. i mean, obviously it has to be something to do with accounting, but are there specifics that lay out the requirements??

^^^

This is what's on their site.  I swear they had more details when I first looked in June/July but they seem to have removed it (the idiots!)

Individuals who sat for the CPA examination prior to 1984 must evidence one year of public accounting experience or one year of employment by a unit of federal, state or local government in a position which required the use of accounting skills under the supervision of a licensed certified public accountant or approved chartered accountant.

In 2008 the Florida legislature expanded the work experience requirement to include all applicants for CPA licensure regardless of when the individual sat for the CPA examination.  In addition to experience obtain in the public accounting and government, the 2008 legislative change also allows experience obtained in industry and academia.

FYI - if you're having issues with FL requirements and you don't plan to work in FL, shop around.  I graduated FAU and I'm taking it through Alabama (a two tier state).  They are slow to get their scores out, but the woman there is very helpful and I graduated sooner because I needed 9 less accounting credits, so my last semester I took 3 online CC classes (typing, low-level bus. writing, communication) in addition to my 3 real accounting classes at my University.  I have an internship with KPMG in Israel next year.

The problem has been resolved.  I contacted the Director of the Division of Certified Public Accounting in FL and this was her response.  Now I can take Auditing in Nov and be done!

"Rule 61H1-28.0052 F.A.C. was amended, with an effective date of August 20, 2009.  Applicants for original licensure now have 36 months to apply for licensure after passing all sections of the CPA examination."

I also asked about the possibility of submitting a licensure package without the work experience and avoiding having grades expire.

"With regards to your question regarding submission of licensure package, Florida statutes require that applications are approved or denied within 90 days.  Therefore we would not be able to hold the application open indefinitely.  However, the Board of Accountancy will allow an applicant an additional six months to meet requirements upon receipt of a signed waiver.
Thank you"

I'm sorry, but i'm still confused!  We have 36 months to apply for licensure, but w/in 90 days of passing the exam we have to have our one-year work experience hours??

What if i want to do this: If i pass my last section next month, can i take a 2 year vacation from accounting and then find a job and complete my work experience by that 3rd year that i have to apply for a license?

So if i pass my last section next month, when do i need to apply for a license, and when do i need to have a job?

No.  The 90-day issue related to certain forum members who questioned whether or not they could submit the licensure application without the work experience (back when you only had 1 year to get it) and have you application put on hold so that your grades would not expire.  The Director was stating that if anyone tried that, it would essentially only lead to a 90-day extension as the application must be approved within 90 days.

By the way, how was AUD?  And why are you delaying FAR until 2010?? No need for that.

You can take your two year "vacation" but you absolutely must apply for licensure within 3 years of taking your last exam AND have the one-year of work experience.  If you want to wait until 2 years after to look for a job, that's fine.
