Yeah. I'll have to take about 20 classes. But the classes are so much cheaper at the CC than through a master's degree program...But will it matter to employers? I know that UT accounting grads are heavily recruited, but will it make a difference if I can pass the CPA exam?

If you talk about UT (Austin) MS Accounting program that program is
ranked #3 in the country for 2008. So yes, it will make a huge difference.
A solid program usually comes with a solid career services department.
They will help you out to find a good job. Going to a CC you are basically
on your own. You can find a good job in accounting without going for
your MS degree but it will be much harder (especially in the current
economy). CPA would help but it is not a magic ticket. Most employers
prefer formal training in accounting from what I have seen (by formal
training I mean a degree in accounting). Hope that helps!

No, as long as you satisfy the accounting and the business-credit
requirements the remaining credits could be in basket knitting if that's your
call in life. Your history credits should be good.

You do not need to be an accounting major to take mid and upper level
accounting courses.

Actually, by the time you take the required courses in order to advance to upper division and take the advanced courses, you will be an accounting major. So what you said sort of doesn't make sense. Most schools only offer enough upper accounting courses to give you a BS in Accounting.

I believe the Master's courses are a bit more advanced and requires a lot more of your time. Go for the undergraduate accounting degree. Plus, the undergraduate courses are cheaper than the graduate courses.

I still have two accounting courses to take in order to get to my required 36 accounting hours. I will be taking those at the undergraduate level because it won't be as time consuming nor as costly as the graduate courses.
