Same here. I used to be a student member and for a few months after I got my license. I received Journal of Accountancy each month other than this I did not take any advantage. I think it is helpful when you practice alone or if you are a manager to increase your credential with clients.

Membership in the AICPA is optional for CPAs.

Oh well, i thought the membership will help a bit on my resume. Besdies, reading the Journal of Accountancy at night will help me to fall asleep (just kidding!) anyhow, the membership is bit too expensive for me now....maybe after i get a job....

most larger firms require the employees (who are CPAs) to
be members and the firm pays the membership fees

The Journal of Accountancy Magazine is one advantage, another is CPE discounts, and if memory serves me well you can also receive professional liability insurance through the AICPA as well.

A lot of the time a firm will require you to be a member because the firm itself is not allowed to publicize that the firm is a member of the AICPA unless all CPA’s at the firm are members themselves.
