I'm in a similar situation, graduated in May, have not starting working yet.

I used Becker. I studied around 240 hours over 8 weeks. In the end, how much and how long you study depends on the individual. If you were a good accounting student and learned the material in college, you could easily get by with less.

I considered the "risk" of taking the exam and failing. No matter how much you study there will always be a chance that you will fail, BUT the more you study and more hours you put in, the smaller that risk becomes. It depends on how much risk you can tolerate.

So did you use Becker and if so, do you feel its sufficient enough itself to pass

Becker was more than enough for me. Since I just graduated, my college courses had a big impact as well. I think you could study and take FAR in one month and pass, but the risk of failing will be larger. Doesn't mean you will fail though.

Agree with the others…Depends on the person…I’ve been out of college (MIS major & Finance/Comp Sci minors) for a number of years…I’ve been working in the IT field (networking & database work)…Recently (~2yrs ago) had the opportunity to jump onto a financial consulting gig and I’m loving it….So I decided to take up the CPA….I plan on studying for ~6 weeks while working full time….Hope I can pass and then I’ll be done!!!

So some of us may need a little more time…..ha…   But it does go to show that if you put the time into it, even an IT guy can do it….
