And why is BAP such a big deal. In any other major those types of groups are seen as a waste of time and/or cheesy. |

I agree, but for whatever reason BAP seems to be a big deal in accounting. All the other groups I joined for resume purposes were truly jokes, and no commitment was required. I actually had to do work on Saturdays and fulfill tutoring requirements and other things in BAP.

BAP at my school requires grad students to have a 3.5 or higher GPA (out of 4.0). I mean that is absurd...anyone with a 3.3 or higher in a tough masters in accounting program is doing incredibly well.

Agree. I think ours is the same for both undergrad and graduate. I'm not sure on EXACTS but it is like overall 3.0 with at least 3.0 in accounting, OR 3.25 in last 24 hours of accounting attempted. Somewhere around the lowest they can set it, but I've seen most schools leave it low. Looks like you are at one of those unfortunate places where they make it HARDER for their students to excel.

Yeah I am at a school that is trying to be a top 5 public univ. I think they try to do it artificially by making it harder for students...in wierd ways...not necessarily in challenging classes.

I think there might be a degree of preference toward younger people, graned I have never seen any discrimination towardy anyone. But you have to understand that it is nearly impossible to work this job and have a family - I can't even get a cat because both my fiancee and I work in big four in NYC and a cat would just freaking die from neglect - we work crazy hours, travel out of town ALL the time, we are home an hour a day. My average daily commute is 4 hrs a day, I don't cook, I am lucky if I can clean my house once a week and I basically only watch TV on weekends nights, I hardly ever get home before 8-9pm. I have no intention of doing this job when I am older and have a family, it would be physically impossible.
