How much is it worth?

Whatever the supply and demand is for CPAs in your area. If there is no demand for CPAs, it might not be worth anything.

I'd say it's worth about $4,000, not including coffee costs.

Do you really think you'll uncover the scam that easily? The AICPA is
made up of people who compile and audit financial statements for a
living! Materiality? Miscellaneous expenses? "Other" assets? They can hide
their tracks with precision!
Ignore the fact that a large amount of collusion would have to take place
between AICPA members, psychometrics, CPA Exam preparatory material
sellers and colleges to make this scam work.
Heisenberg is right. This conspiracy is bigger than you. Meeting the
educational requirements? Scam. Paying to take the exam? Scam. Having
to purchase preparatory materials? Scam. Pass rates which are not all over
the place? Scam. Firms which are not hiring amidst difficult economic
times? Scam. Not guaranteed 100K salary? Scam. All by the AICPA.
Run, don't walk, away. You already know too much. |

OK... I would agree that the AICPA would be able to pull it off through
collusion if anyone could.
That being said, I think it's interesting that the same people who think
government or governing bodies are so proficient to pull off a huge scam
conspiring to take advantage of people, and yet trumpet loudly about how
government or governing bodies are incompetent all the time...
Not only that, if we didn't have to pay fees, we would have to raise taxes
to pay the people's salaries that proctor and grade the test. Aren't you
conservatives against that?
(I hate to draw politics into this... but I just can't stand to let this go by
without comment!)

It's unfortunate that sarcasm does not always translate well in writing.
I was taking a fairly hyperbolic stance in order to illustrate the folly of the "AICPA is out to get you" mentality I keep encountering in Heisenberg's posts. I don't actually believe any of that nonsense.
