You have a good point about maybe someone getting married or quitting.  Turnover tends to be somewhat high at CPA firms.  During my time at my last firm, there were a number of people who also went out on maternity leave.

Having moved around a lot, I know about the moving.  It's a pain.  Have a garage sale and make some cash while reducing the amount of stuff you have to move.

And congrats on the job!

I'm doing a temp to possible permanent position for a non profit entity doing fund accounting/grant reporting.  I'll post update if I get hired permanently.  I started the beginning of this month.

Couldn't hurt to try the position if it isn't going to cost you a lot of money to relocate in case it doesn't turn into something permanent; plus, you'll get to see if you really like that city.  If you aren't tied down to a family, mortage, etc. in your current location which would make it difficult to move temporarily, I say go for it.  Isn't it awful how everyone is job chasing?

Temp to perm doesn't necessarily mean they are planning to ditch you.  Some firms just might want to safely see if your a good fit or maybe they are unsure about future business.  My current job started as temp to perm and it went permanent.

Probably true.  I think most business are probably worried about re-hiring after the economy jumped in the tank like it has.

One thing I can say and I'm sure we can all agree on is that I would MUCH RATHER A FIRM BE UP FRONT ABOUT IT than to call it permanent when they are gonna let you go after tax season.  My last job was "permanent" except I got let go 3 weeks after tax season.  I wish they would have just called it seasonal so I do not have to explain why I got let go.  The firm had a rep for doing that to people, but I blindly ignored the warnings.  At least if they let me go at this job, I will have no problem explaining that the job was temp to perm.
