How do people research interviews? I want to be prepared for upcoming
interviews, but when interviewing with large firms it is hard to find aspects
of specific offices just by going to their website.

I would love to hear of other people's methods.

Find out the name of the person interviewing you and do some research on them.  Try to find some info on them so you can get an idea of what that person is like.  Always make sure you have questions ready to ask them and bring a notepad to take notes.

Yes. I have 3 interviews coming up with Big 4 firms and am trying to find out
more details on specific offices.

mrkennedy -
I'm the guy from the "law to accounting" thread who originally advised
you to go to taxtalent.com. I saw what I believe was your thread there and
am sorry they couldn't give you better advice.

You should take what I say with a grain of salt, since I had Big 4
interviews once upon a time but never any offers, but since not too many
people have been able to give you much advice, I will take a crack at it.

I would definitely agree that you should ask a lot of questions. Not just
about the work but also about the people you would be working with. I've
also asked interviewers to tell me more about themselves, how they got
into the profession and where they are now, etc. People in general like to
talk about themselves and this also holds true for Big 4 partners and
managers.

I wouldn't worry too much about finding out too much about your
interviewers beforehand. Obviously the Big 4 firms are harder to research
than smaller firms where you can just look up the partner profiles, and
going to extreme lengths like tracking down their profiles on LinkedIn or
something like that might even be a tad off-putting. Again, I think a
better approach is just to ask questions. This shows your
interest/enthusiasm and should give you something specific to mention
in your "thank you" email. By all means Google the partners, and if they
made a presentation at a conference or something like that by all means
feel free to bring it up. But again, I would not go to any extreme lengths
to find out about your interviewers.

I've never been grilled on technical issues at a Big 4 interview, but it never
hurts to brush up on a few things if you're interviewing for a specialty
position. Also, if you wrote a paper for a seminar or journal in your LLM
program, talking about it is a good way to show your interest in and
understanding of the field but I wouldn't go overboard with trying to
dazzle your interviewers with technical knowledge.

Anyway, hope this helps a little even though its coming from someone
who never worked for the Big 4 and barring some serious shortage of
accountants in the future, never will. Best of luck with your interviews.
