Please help. I have weakness in public speaking and when am ask what are my weakness I plan on telling the employee the truth and that is I have weakness in public speaking. Do you think this is a good idea?

I am not sure what to tell them if they ask me about my strengths. I work well with people, is that strength? What else should I tell the interviewer?

I appreciate all the help. Thanks my fellow accountants and students.

Yes, "work well with others" is a strength as it tells the interviewer that you can work in a team.  I cannot recommend what else you should say as I don't know you personally and cannot comment on your strengths or weaknesses, lol.  That's really up to you!  Just don't be too generic or go overboard.  Take 5 minutes and think of your best working attributes.

One suggestion for weaknesses is that you should ALWAYS spin your weaknesses into a positive, i.e. I have really bad grammar, but I'm currently looking into taking additional English classes at a local college to improve on my communication skills.  No one is perfect, and the interviewers know that.  But if you're actively trying to improve on your weaknesses, then it's a plus.

My career counselor in college also said to use something true, but small. If
the job you are applying for requires a lot of public speaking, you might not
want to highlight that as a weakness.

Yes, working well with others is a definite strength. Make sure you have an
example or two ready of a time that demonstrated this strength.

If you say public speaking, like the posters above, say you are registered for a speech class at the local university or college.  Just don't make it look like you are content with having a weakness.  I've been honest before and said it took me too long to ask for help when I came across something I wasn't familiar with.  Apparently it wasn't the right answer.

The question about weaknesses is one of the worst. Almost any answer you give can be interpreted in a negative way. I am still looking for a good answer. But I suspect that many interviewers want to see if you are naïve enough to give a truthful answer and spill the beans. Also many people recommend avoiding such arrogant answers as “I care too much about people” or “I work too much.” I think that “I am perfectionist” is also out of fashion.

I am not sure about the public speaking thing. It can be interpreted as your fear of being in public and meeting new people. And if it can be interpreted this way, be sure it will be. If I were you, I would think twice about using it.
