I've been honest before and said it took me too long to ask for help when I came across something I wasn't familiar with.  Apparently it wasn't the right answer.

You made a mistake for sure by being honest. It was not a good answer since it makes you look inefficient

My weakness is that I have found that I am too controlling. I like to take charge of situations since it is in my nature to do so (read: I'm just bossy :))I explain away by saying I have been working on being more flexible and giving others a chance to offer unique alternatives/solutions to the matter at hand. This is practical in accounting because etc etc etc.

The weakness question is very tough.

Don't try to B.S. the weakness question.  The person interviewing you will be able to see right through it if you give an answer that isn't really a weakness at all.

I agree with most of the posters that say you want something true, but small.  You also want to end on a positive note and show what you have been doing to improve your weakness.  The public speaking answer sounds great as long as the job doesn't require a lot of public speaking.

When I was asked this question, I said that I have a very active mind and as such it tends to wander in long meetings, so I have to take notes and concentrate to stay tuned into what's going on.  They said they appreciated my honesty and I ended up getting an offer, but it probably wasn't just because of this answer.

As far as the strengths, you want to mention whatever you think they are looking for.  For an accounting jobs those strengths may be attention to detail, communication skills, etc.  Try to give a few examples of these strengths too, don't just list them.  It's great if you can tie the strengths into your resume to prove they exist, (I have a great attention to detail, and that trait really helped me get a high GPA because...)

This is not getting any easier. So far I think I can answer the strength question by saying that I work well with people and I will give examples of some projects I work on with my coworkers.

The weakness question is becoming a challenge and a bit tricky. My Job may require me to present financial information to a group of people so I am thinking not to use the weakness in public speaking. If I use it then I will say I am working on it.

I would like to say that my weakness is in Microsoft Access. I wish I am proficient in access but I am not and I started using access on daily basis as I want to gain more proficiency. What do you think?
