I don't think you should take 3 years to go bs to ms. Forget about ny requirements. Finish the MSA, take the cpa in a state that's 120 credits. Get a job, finish the requirements at night being reimbursed by your job. Transfer the exam credits to ny. NJ for instance does  not have the same requirements.

Get an MBA in Accounting. Rutgers has a 14 month, full time program. I am sure that other schools do too. It gives you everything you need to take the CPA.

I think one of the biggest problems is that your are focusing on getting 2 degrees (1 undergrad and 1 masters).  Pick the one that will let you SIT for the CPA exam the quickest.  If you can complete the MSA quicker and cheaper than the BS, then go for that.  If you can meet the req's quicker via the BS, do that and then sit for the CPA exam will working in an accounting job.  If you need the MSA to get licensed, then go back later and do that. I do not think you want to go 3-3.5 years straight without working or sitting for the CPA exam.

I just checked the CPA requirements for NJ and they require 24 credits in business. So no matter where I get an MSA, I will never meet the business requirement unless I first get a BS degree since MS programs only include accountign classes.  And besides, I'm in no rush to graduate in this economy with 10% unemployment.  Maybe once I'm in school I will do taxes at H&R Block or book keeping part time.

Yes, I can do on campus recruiting.  But I must admit that my networking skills stink and I don't plan on doing any extracircular/ volunteeer actvities or anything like that.  I must admit that I am a nerd and like to concentrate on my school work.  Will this hurt me?  Because I've heard many times here that just havng a strong GPA is not enough for the Big 4. Perhaps I will stand a bteter chance with a regional firm or even a Fortune 500 corporation?  After all, I would imagine that nearly all of them hire accountants, especially insurance companies.

GPA is not enough. Even GPA and good work experience isn't enough.

Your GPA is only one factor in getting you into the interview. But once you're in there, none of that matters. It's all about your personality, how well they know you and how you present yourself.

So if you want any hope of getting into the big 4, I'd spend time sucking up to them and working on your interviewing skills.

Sorry if that came out harsh. It's just advice that I wish someone had given me when I decided to go into accounting.
