Normally if you have someone you were close to at your old job, you can put them on your reference list and they can tell the prospective employer what a good employee you were and that you were among the many people let go due to the tough financial times.

It is only the shining surface that the firms are interested in. When he starts asking you about experiences (difficult person, leadership etc), do not hesitate to embellish or exaggerate or invent history if it results in a nice sounding, quick, smooth answer. This is the important thing.

And do not dwell on anything negative that happened on previous jobs. Remember those warnings about a drug's side effects. From the way they sound, they never seem like a big deal
