Hi All,

I am currently working at an accounting firm in Canada
dealing with private clients and I am working under a
CPA.

Out of curiosity, why the CPA when you are in Canada ?

Ok, I got it at the "nasba site" :

NOTE: Applicants who have earned degrees or course credit at institutions without regional accreditation may be considered under the stipulations of Colorado Rules 2.2B or C, and 2.3B.)

Effective October 29, 2009, the Board has suspended the use of the Chartered Accountant eligibility for purposes of the examination and licensure.

All educational transcripts, Affidavit of Eligibility, SSN Affidavit, Certificate of Enrollments, and/or foreign evaluations are required to be submitted at the time of application. Official school transcripts, Certificate of Enrollments and/or foreign evaluations are required to be mailed directly to CPA Examination Services from the institution. Photocopies or transcripts “Issued to Student” are not acceptable.

So this applies to new candidates and not to old candidates who were deemed eligible for the examination prior to the rule change on Oct 29, 2009? Can someone please verify? Thanks!

If you see all the tabs for the CO Board on the NASBA website, they have written that the exam application and licensure is on hold till the Board meets on December 9,2009

It will not affect those who are writing the exams and passed few sections. It may affect for Licensure.

I have only one exam BEC left to write at the end of this month while waiting for AUD results. Got to see.

Thanks ! I also have only AUD to go.. let's see.. So, I guess now for licensure, they won't be accepting CA qualification under Rule 2.5 "education in lieu of experience"...  Not sure why they have changed the rules !

Hey Divya, is it mentioned anywhere that only new applicants would  have to get their evaluations done? I can not spot it anywhere. I got my NTS just 15 days before this announcement & have written 1 exam till now. I am worried what would happen? Also my NTS is for 3 sections only. I hope they don't ask me to get this evaluation done when i go back to them to pay my fees for the last part! I am waiting to know what it is. Does anyone here have a clue? What is the board saying now?

Ok i just called up the CO board & got things clarified. They say that this is not going to apply for candidates who have registered and received their NTS before 28th Oct 2009. Even in case you do not have your NTS for all 4 sections, they are not going to ask you to evaluate when you apply for an NTS again later. Big relief comes from their assurance on license. Older candidates don't need to go thru the new procedure at the time of applying for license as well. This is good news for many of us including me! :)
I guess they'll make this more clearer officially by posting on their website shortly....

hi guys

I have a question re: which state I should get certified through.. I'd appreciate your help.

I used to live in Canada, and while there I wrote canadian CA exams and passed all.  I also went through the PASS program which is a well recognized program in toronto that prepares you for the CKE, SOA and UFE.  Before I could finished my practical experience, I moved to the UAE and am currently living here.

While in the UAE, I registered myself as a Delaware candidate and wrote and passed all 4 of the CPA exams.

Right now, I have about 18 months of work experience.  I have no intentions of ever working or living in Delaware.. I'm just interested in getting a certificate.

I was wondering which state I should go through to get a certificate.  Delaware requires you to get a certificate and permit to practice together.. so I can't get that until I have completed 2 years of experience.  And Illinois needs 5 years of education.. I only have 4.

My exact questions:

1. Has anybody applied for the certificate and permit to practice for Delaware.. do you get your certificate right away if you've pass the 4 exams + ethics?

2. If I go through Illinois now.. would I be able to petition my case and have that 1 year of CA prep + exams count towards the 5th year of education I need?

THANK YOU so much in advance.

1. Delaware still issues certificates upon passing the CPA exam and ethics exam only to those who registered with the board prior to January 2006.

2. Illinois board recognizes courses taken through an accredited university/college. I don't think the PASS program will qualify, just as the Becker CPA review course is not accepted. However, there is no harm in emailing PASS to get their insight.
