Come on! Those are not stupid questions. The information changes from State to State, and it can be very confusing to figure out what the particular requirements are and how they apply to your particular situation. Check the experience requirements for CA. I believe you have to work under a CPA. I don't know, though, whether it has to be public accounting or it could be something else. You could call your State CPA Society and ask all of these questions. General feeling is that CA and NY are the toughest States to get licensed. You can take the ethics test at any point. You don't even need to be done with the CPA exam to take the test. It's very easy, and I doubt it will take you more than 2-7 days. Good luck with the license!
